Was it not a mistake to get into his car? They may not have known it at the time, but seeing the outcome, I'd say it was a pretty big mistake. I can see where that starts to get a bit blamey, though.

I think boiling things down to "he's just making excuses" in the public discourse is incredibly damaging to us (as a general people) in our capacity to view this as an opportunity to peer inside his head. It's similar rhetoric to when people see acts of terrorism and call it 'cowardly'. Maybe the person was ultimately…
Thank you for the extrapolation, the extra details are really helpful. Seeing the bit about 'bad childhood' and then no actual quotes was kind of confusing and Jez is pretty frequently lazy about citations.
Where is the childhood one listed? I don't see it above, I assume maybe there are more tweets...? Also, is him saying "I thought she was older" really an excuse?
Am I missing the part where he justified his behavior? Genuinely confused as to where in the above quotes he made his actions okay.
Making pathetic excuses? It wasn't as if he wrote this note on his Livejournal, so to whom would he be making these pathetic excuses ~9 years ago in a letter to no one in particular, or maybe to himself?
It will not change that a large amount, possibly an overwhelming majority of men, view female promiscuity as acharacter flaw.
I think it's definitely a generational thing — the further away from the actual time period where those gender roles were strictly enforced, the more you can start to see those activities as an equally good choices and less like shackles.
Yes, yes, yes! Both you and your mom sound like badasses. All these people have a false dichotomy running around their thick heads that either you are a rough, unbathed, musky feminazi drinking the blood of male sacrifices OR you are a wilting, timid, domesticated housewife. Helllll naw!
My earliest feminist influence was a badass woman in college who sewed, loved knitting/crochet, and is, to this day, the best chef I've ever known. All of those domestic activities AND she still wanted to smash gender inequality.
Not silly at all when you consider exactly what guns are at a base level. We have normalized a tool with a primary purpose of hurting or killing something or someone — I think it's far more disturbing NOT to have some kind of fear associated with that.
Ugh, the worst part is, this stuff is ALL OVER news coverage. They are asking all these questions about "the media" while simultaneously contributing to whatever it is they're questioning. Eating its own tail is a spot-on analogy. The media is ouroboros circlejerking itself into a black hole of information.
PREACH. You can't give snarky celeb news coverage AND pretend you're above the fray when the major media sources descend with you.
Man, I've got mixed feelings about 'cunt punt'. I love the hell out of vulgarity, but I've seen SO MANY awful people use it when trying to make a point against feminists taht it's been ruined for me forever. :(
Gotta be honest with you, this reads like those painfully meta news headlines that makes me want to dropkick a barrel of puppies off a balcony.
If you still think I'm saying YOU, PERSONALLY are playing Oppression Olympics by calling me out on this particular thread, then you really have poor reading comprehension and I can't continue this conversation. It's a huge waste of my time if my sole, simple point isn't even being heard.
At last, a citation! Jezebel writers are the fucking worst about citing anything.
I was sincere in my apology, and I remain sincere. If you would like to continue to ascribe motivations to me beyond that, you're quite welcome to, but at this point I can't force you to listen and read what I have to say when I offer to clarify myself and I'm not going to continue to debate it. If I am still unclear…
Gotta be honest, it didn't even occur to me that 'master bedroom' was a racist thing until now. I always assumed it was 'master', as in the principal, main bedroom of the house.
Yeah, I saw that after I posted...new Jezebel comment system is no bueno D:
