You don’t get it.

I’ve said this 100 times, you don’t buy a diesel for the economy. You buy it for how it drives.

Cars from the 50's still drive wonderfully. Obviously you need to maintain them and replace the rubber bits.

I’m into classics for how they drive, what that tells you about the technology of their time, not just OOO Pretty.

The driving experience it what takes you back, not just the looks.

You mean Lada engine.

Never ever use latex gloves in the shop. The exposure allergy is cumulative.

Buy the good quality nitrile gloves (should cost $12-$15 a box) and they’ll perform much much better without the allergy risk.

Pro tip. Clean the filter beforehand and use a lid opener from the kitchen in between the strap and the filter. Another more expensive option is using some grip tape like you’d use on a skateboard. Shelf liner is another less effective option.

I start the old Benz for a few and it clears them out. Otherwise burn a few handfuls of leaves. Does a great job.

No Voltmeter!?

Shopkeep? You mean the 17 year old kid making $8 an hour at the big box store?

Honestly I think you’d love either, the V8 being the more common car has some real advantages.

GET OUT.

OUT OUT OUT.

Have you tried to get classic car financing on $50,000? It’s not easy even with good credit. I can see why many vehicles in this price range are cash purchases.

As a e38  V12 owner you’re better off with the V8. I’ve driven all these cars, the V8 is the more aggressive motor, the more sporting option. The V12 is nice but it’s a bit less aggressive, it’s a very different feel.

If you want a transcontinental power cruiser go with the V12, if you want to rip stoplight to

Having a worked up a few rungs on the ladder I can tell you unless you’ve got very experienced friends that’s the way to do it. I actually pushed off the restoration of my w115 for about 8 years because I knew going in I did not have the money and more importantly the skills at that point.

I assume people on Jalopnik are actually car people, that’s my error.

Nah, that’s easy. Does EPA measure actual energy input on both the charger and battery side? Chalk it up to a “mysteriously” more efficient charger and boom more MPGe.

What car enthusiast does not wrench on their own cars?

I think it’s because you can get away with it, and everyone does it so why not you too? If you speed in the suburbs you’ll get glaring looks or a visit from the local PD. In the City there are limited consequences.

Having come from a very poor area to a a wealthy part of town as a child I developed much more respect

Awww hell yes.

I’d love to know how much of that was labor and how much was parts. You don’t need to go to BMW for most things so there’s some substantial savings there.

You’re bench racing. Talk to me about power under the curve in the upper rev band.

Peak horsepower means nothing in the real world.
