Come to think of it, I recently drove a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. It had the sensation of engine braking with off throttle coast down with the transmission in the normal “D” selection. High tech stuff.

Exactly. This problem didn’t exist until the backlit gauges and drls. It used to be that you politely high beam an oncoming person who forgot to turn on their headlights. Now we have the same issue for taillights. Except now, we can not communicate this with a flash of the high beams without looking like a dick.
