That’s a fairly stupid take: the two columns appear to be supporting the porch roof. They are not designed to counter the lateral impact of a speeding tire and wheel.

Based on my Vehicle Dynamics classes, it probably makes more of a difference than you think.

In the 60's and 70's GM added a similar weight that hung off of the tail of the transmission on many of its cars. It was there to dampen vibration as well but... It stopped the transmission from going into resonance vibration and breaking the bell housing. Hopefully the weight you removed is only there for comfort.
