Is the Farragut the only asset in the region? I would have suspected there would have been a decent amount of DDG’s in the local area to move in.

Actually, Al Qaeda has denounced ISIS.
Agree with the second sentiment, disagree on terrified people dont fight back. :)
Which part? You think Al Qaeda is really in any sort of existent state? I’m not talking about the ass-hats that just pick up the name for convenience, i’m talking about Bin Ladens old group. There will always be some group that claims to be the heir to something.
If you have a supportive, or complacent populace, then sure. If you have the majority of the population against you, and the rest complacent then no, you stand no chance.
Have you looked at the entire history of Central/South America? First one that comes to mind is Cuba.. Not sure that Castro was heavily armed.
Actually, although I agree with your sentiment (see previous post), that’s probably not a good comparison, as we have pretty much wiped Al Qaeda out, and ISIS will be gone within the next 2 years. ISIS would be gone today if we put ground troops in (not advocating that), so you cant really say the full ‘might’ of the…
Sure, they could.. And they could also kill 300 Million Americans. If they want anything left to ‘govern’, they wont be wiping out large portions of the populace. I would say that the American Military, as it is now, would stand NO CHANCE at subduing the population of the U.S. in your scenario.
Okay, I knew those existed.. equivalent of throwing some hand grenades down there. I was thinking 55 Gallon tubs with a pressure fuse on it. Which seems a bit excessive in this situation.
On a side note - I didnt think ‘Depth Charges’ were still a weapon that was used. I was under the impression everything was Torpedo based at this point. Do U.S. Navy ships still carry depth charges?
Aside from a M1, what is going to withstand that? Assuming no slat armor. Point is, it cant be EVERYTHING, but for the role it is playing, and seemingly was ‘designed’ for, it does a great job.
Was looking for someone to make this comment (I was going to make it). The Bradley is far from a disaster. 25MM chain gun firing Depleted Uranium that is impervious to small arms fire is not something I want to tangle with.
Thats probably true...
Got it.. Just doesnt make sense to me. :)
Agreed - Naval operations are a ton tougher on those airframes, but still, close to 40 years of somewhat heavy use, I would think the airframes and engines would just about be cooked. F-4 / F-5 is probably easier for them to keep running as spare parts are easier to come by.
How in the world do they keep the F-14 flying? I’m actually really impressed with their ability to keep that thing flying. The newest aircraft has to be close to 40 years old, and has fought through a 8 year war with lord only knows how many hours on the air frame and engines.
The Mig is probably the newest thing they have, since it’s post Shah. F-14, F-4, and F-5 are all older. I’m super impressed with their ability to keep the F-14 flying.
I have a better idea, we should move to constitution class star ships, and photon torpedo’s and just bombard them from orbit..
I havent.. I really dont have to much of a need for those type, really only the floods..

Yeh, I know I should change em out, but most of my lights in my house are flood lights, which on the LED side (for one that puts out the right type of light) are still around $15-$20. So, not worth it to change em out..
