For real, why is the sexism so very hateful in our community?!?

Like Ms. Kent said, the reason why Marshall grew up relatively well-off for a black person in his time likely relates to the greater opportunities afforded his parents and ancestors as light-skinned black people. For example, Howard Univ has an area where photos of graduates are on the wall. The further you go back in

Ignoring reality even though L.A. is half Latinx. I used to read women’s fitness mags and it took me a while to realize that the reason why so many WoC on the covers are older and established in their careers (often for decades if black), is because the publishing industry wants a “sure thing” while putting

Yeah, I don’t get it either. Well, I think white people view blondes the way US society views roses — they’re considered the best, even though there’s tons of other great flowers with beauty and nice fragrances. It makes me especially sad when PoC buy into these ideas.

It’s also a bigger deal on the coasts because many people move there as adults, leaving behind their family and friends. Starting over as an adult is challenging, especially when you don’t know anyone in your new location.

Also high infant/mother mortality rates.

+ infinity!

And yet, where are the collectives of black men with $$$ coming together to create more black owned institutions - hospitals, schools, factories, grocery stores, banks, etc.? With our own businesses, we could hire our own and be more independent. I know some exist on a smaller scale, but why so very small?

So once again, a black woman is supposed to do a “man’s” job of asking someone out? I thought that men find that emasculating? Which one is it?

He’s treating the natural disasters and their awful effects like tv shows, where the more extreme they are, the better.

For real, I was in a poor part of town with coworkers. We carpooled to get lunch. The driver saw a pregant pitbull and stopped to try to get her in the car b/c she volunteers with a dog fostering group. I was in the back of the car with a broken leg, and felt so relieved that the dog kept her distance. This coworker

I have seen comments about abandoned dogs that are similar. In our post-2008 economy, people are more likely to get evicted, especially in rapidly gentrifying areas.

Right, and it’s important to note that many sundown towns were created by running “others” out of town by threat of violence.

Sorry you had to deal with this. You’re not alone.

If you gotta be in public dressed like a clown, NYC is one of the better places to be.

I know someone in Baltimore who was robbed after leaving her door unlocked while walking her friend to her car. WHY?!?!?

I am amazed by some white people’s comfort around wild animals. Not the Steve Irwins or Jane Goodalls, but regular, entitled people.

Why would a person consider moving to a particular small city just because of a festival? It could be one factor, but probably not the most important. When living in St. Louis I went to Lou Fest, and it was fun. What was even better, on a day-to-day basis, was living near the park it was held in for exercise

Ne. Ver.

The pressure is real. There are wealthy communities throughout the US where people who aren’t skinny or muscular stand out, and parts of L.A. fit the bill.
