Thank you for being willing to share your family’s story.
Lady on the far right: “Not today, Satan. I rebuke thee.”
Thanks! I laughed for 5 minutes.
Even the person in the black hoodie is revealing an expression with a sideways neck stretch.
Universal Standard? Eloquii?
NO. Other (straight) men say, “Our women! Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em.” Too many Black men say, “Black women are the worst because [insert negative stereotypes]. Other women are better.”
Thank you! My father wasn’t perfect, but he was a hard working family-oriented man, despite growing up in a household w/ a single mom. Not asking accountability from adults, in this case black men, does them no favors.
For some of my cousins, their rapist was their brother/father. Of course, they were never prosecuted and free to rape more black girls/women.
Amen. Considering how many abusers are repeat offenders, I wonder how much it would decrease if we spoke up and they were imprisoned.
Right! Do these folks think they can’t do better? Do they not want to do better?
Yes, police violence is gendered. So is domestic violence and rape. The difference is that when y’all are killed due to police violence, you get support. When we are killed due to domestic violence, we are blamed.
Probably, given higher marriage rates and employment rates.
Exactly! That’s what I hate about “share your financial success” stories. I wanna know the WHOLE story. Otherwise, it’s disingenuous.
Yeah, when my upper class white friend was complaining that his parents were taking too long to pass down his car to him, I rolled my eyes internally. At the time, he was married w/ a kid, both he and his wife work w/ good jobs, and they live in a low cost-of-living area.
Of course it depends on what you specifically want out of life, but I worry that the message isn’t nuanced enough. We face a higher penalty than white people for less than a bachelor’s in education. We are judged by our past, not our potential. Sadly, there aren’t enough black businesses for black people to count on…
Sadly, some black parents ruin their children’s credit by using their names, further setting them back.
A white ex-bf of mine discussed this a bit b/c his black stepdad seemed to have that mentality. We were in the DC region at the time, and I said that I disagreed, because kids who don’t get help have to compete against those who do, and it’s harder to “win” that way.
And on top of that, it’s common for black middle class adults to spend $$ helping relatives, including older generations. For many middle class white Americans, it is not fathomable for their middle class parents to ask them for money. Instead their parents help with college tuition, down payments on a house, wedding…
Right, and the black unemployment rate has been 2x the white unemployment rate for decades.
