SAME! As a black person, NOPE! I met some great people, but the pervasive segregation was too much. There is so much narrow-mindedness there, which is common when people never leave home, and haven’t done so for generations.
Probably the thinly veiled racism that exists in society- portraying Black people negatively no matter what, minimizing our accomplishments, discussing the dysfunctional family a Black person came from if they become a notable person due to success, etc.

100% on point! As someone who lived in the city for several years, the lack of regional togetherness is one of many issues holding the area back.
I like most of Bell’s stuff, but his progressive-black-people-are-ok-with-LGBTQ-relationships-but-side eye-my-marriage-to-a-white-woman thing is self-serving and as little nuance.
