Wait, what?

You’re not a coward; you’re taking care of your family who need you. As someone pointed out upthread, an industry action where the big bosses can’t fire literally everyone (i.e., like when a district’s high school teachers all walk out) does offer some limited protection. A general strike such as this where only a few

I think they’re causing democratic leaders, like Schumer, to take a tougher stance in dealing with Trump, possibly causing republican leaders to question whether they’re really doing what their constituents want, and this one is petty, but I think it hurts the little baby’s feelings.

It’s a matter of necessary workers versus those whose absence won’t mean death. So yeah I think doctors and nurses should find another way to participate. As a teacher myself in a school system with a history of district wide teacher strikes that have been managed with no serious problems I feel fine striking. Of

March 8th is International Women’s Day, there’s stuff happening everywhere. It’s celebrated less in the USA than anywhere else.

I have...potentially problematic thoughts about this. My first inclination is to be all “Yeah! Strike, bitches!!!” but, real talk: a disproportionate amount of women are in the helping professions, such as nursing, teaching, and social work (I’m a social worker, and my field is heavily woman-dominated. It’s a

I support the women who are doing this, but I am too much of a coward. The company I work for is having layoffs, and I am the primary source of income in our house.

“bring your lunch instead of buying it, get your groceries the day before, and so on.”

The people who can afford it least are exactly the ones who are needed to strike. If every woman in my office took the day off, it’d be a quiet day (not saying they talk a lot, saying that there would be significantly fewer people here), but things would get done, and the work that didn’t get done would still be here

Right, but strikes are not intended to be convenient

if protest isn’t uncomfortable, isn’t causing tension, it’s not going to be effective.

The longer I stay on facebook in these dark times, the smaller my circle gets. I’m absolutely livid I wasted any time or energy over the years on some of these people—and these aren’t even trumpers. And before anyone comments with the old “you’re going to let political opinions ruin friendships?”—when people I have

Well, that’s kind of the point of a strike. Yes, strikes hurt the workers. But the idea is that the injustice you’re striking against is more damaging than the loss of wages.

This is just one prong of the protest effort. Folks who can’t take part in the strike will have many, many other opportunities.

This is never not true. It doesn’t even matter what the Facebook post is. It could be some random person’s dinner picture, and there would be a comment saying, “teh sauce on ur spaghetti looks like the blood of Obummer’s aborted fetuses librul murderer”

It’s because he wishes he was Edward; unbelievably wealthy, good looking, normal sized hands, forever young, and gets a girl who devotes her whole life to him.

My takeaway from this is that Trump is totally into Twilight.

Fun fact: the people who will be pissed off by this skit also think the girl Ghostbusters ruined their childhood.
