From what I can tell though saving is the same. You have to return to your room and save there.

I have the iOS version. If I switch to another app or lock the screen then when I come back it resumes where I left it just like any other app. Just don’t leave the app frozen for too long otherwise the garbage collector will close the app and then you really will lose your progress.
