I’m not ignoring the artist. I’ve said several times that the hourly cost of this artist vs the payout likely didn’t match up and it makes sense to turn that down for her. $3k for another artist might be quite a windfall for something if the payment matches up. Artists are allowed to turn down work if it doesn’t meet

that’s... not at all the same thing?

it’s a game awards show. It’s a little self indulgent to dress up in a tux to present the next call of duty

Oh I didn’t know Mike did some work. I’ll keep a lookout for those. Admittedly I haven’t spent a single dime on Snap even though I play regularly but I do have gold saved up for variants that come up that I like.

I, also, would like $70k

except hamburgers aren’t copyrighted.

creating content for licensed IP regularly means giving away any art rights because you’re being licensed to use copyrighted content in your artwork.

This is what I’m saying. I get the argument for wanting to sell prints of something you made if someone else is selling it, i.e. print on demand businesses.

However, if you’re being contracted by a company, to create content with THEIR IP, why would anyone think they’d be allowed to turn around and also sell and

Agreed.

Same thing with Marvel Snap. At least in most of those cases I can recognize Skottie Young or Dan Hipp, but there’s a few in there I wish I knew more. In that case you can at least excuse it as artists that are already contracted by the company to some degree and are under their own individual terms.

I appreciate that it brings up the conversation about proper compensation for illustrators, but this also feels a bit like the hubbub with the voice actress from bayonetta a bit ago. We’re not getting all the details of the story and maybe she was being hilariously lowballed by Epic but without knowing the specifics

Am I specifically wearing my more camouflaged skins on purpose? maybe.

the art on the geralt screen is amazing. That one jumped out at me and I had that same thought.

I do wish Fortnite offered an artist credit with those pieces. I’m guessing that’s what this would be for and having an artist credit would go a long way to sweetening the pot.

$3k isn’t necessarily a BAD deal. It could be better and it certainly falls below what some artists charge. Actually helping increase

I didn’t. That was all essentially in point 2.

A lot of times those splash pages use copyrighted characters. Either ones owned by Epic or ones owned by third party licensors working with Epic on collaborations. In either case the artist wouldn’t legally be able to sell the artwork elsewhere because it’s using

It sounds like it would’ve been a loading page, which can be a large illustration and the time it takes depends on the artist. She said it would’ve taken her weeks which means that the $3k flat fee falls well below her hourly rate and I get turning it down because of that.

I’m assuming Epic has its own department for

$3k for an illustration isn’t really lowballing, depending on a few factors:

i’ve also noticed that with the update i’m having a harder time SEEING players. I’m very taken by the graphics and everything looks very lush, but it’s also harder to notice people, specially when they have subtle skins.

the shooting is really satisfying and not having to worry about building was a great change. It’s a good pick up and go shooter with arcadey elements.
