Steam’s main job is a storefront and platform—expecting problems is giving them way too much slack I think.

Honestly I assumed this when it was announced. Proton is impressive on paper but there will always be limits to running Windows games on Linux. And Destiny 2 likely would have been featured if it was working, all things considered. But confirming that it would run Windows was enough to at least make the device

Feel like the biggest competitor to this isn’t the Switch, but the average Gaming Laptop which can be found for about that price around the holidays and do everything this can — and more.

I don’t totally understand the buying of a ~400+ device to avoid buying duplicates of indie games. even expensive indie games you could buy dozens of games twice and still be saving money over buying this (if you already have a switch of course.)

I’m in this boat too. I have a switch, I'm not buying another console. The steam deck can't play Nintendo exclusives, so it's not even a meaningful upgrade to me, the way a switch pro would be.

“No need for a Switch Pro.”

Well unless the next Zelda game is coming out on the Steam Deck, Nintendo has pretty much ensured that sales of what revision of the Switch they have.

Another thing to consider about the cost; the Steam Deck requires you to buy the dock separately, which if you’re actually trying to emulate the Switch functionality, will cost you even more (how much more is the question).

I know the hype for the Steam Deck is high because it was just announced yesterday, but I’m still struggling to figure out who this is for.

The animation and overall graphics quality looks real rough, but hey, we get a story about the Ace Cadet as voiced by Zuko which is cool, I guess?

we need that everywhere. The situation with No One Lives Forever is beyond absurd.

Certainly hope that 4k isn’t “entering end of life”, we don’t even have one yet. Don’t see any need or point to it. (Of course, this may be because my family tends to think of an “affordable” TV as under 350. Spending 1-2k on a TV seems like the realm of big media-enthusiast types.)

a lot of people treat them like appliances and use them until they break, rather than like disposable devices to upgrade every few years.

No, you are fine with what you wrote. These numbers are about the American market. 4k is not as ubiquitous in other markets/parts of the world, and Nintendo sees itself as a global company. Japanese gamers who have a Switch play on the go more than docked, for example, so they may not even care about whether this is

The priviledge of living in the first world.

4k is ubiquitous, but other than movies, 4k content still isn’t universal and true 4k games (not dynamically scaled resolution) take a lot to push

lateral thinking with withered technology”.

OLED was new and at high cost with the VITA, where is the VITA now?
OLED now is cheaper and will benefit a lot the battery life of the console, better colors.

Nintendo is doing well with sales now, better than the new generation, consoles are

I know it would never happen, but I would *love* some hard hitting investigative journalism on what the heck Square is always thinking when they keep making these baffling decisions regarding remasters. Or most of their decisions really. More so than any other company, it feels like you can flip a coin when it comes

Cops should stop being issued guns for routine duties. If something needs firearms response, they should call SWAT. Most police duties do not require a cop to be armed.
