Because that generation proved longer than previous example and gave them plenty of time to turn around.
But ultimately the PS3 that was released as the mainline model at the end of the lifespan had nothing to do with the then-extinct model that was released at the start of the gen. Even hardware was radically changed

Yeah.

I kind of wonder if that’s the reason of the focus on raytracing here.

Because even 30 vs 60FPS becomes increasingly debatable as segments of gamers even come to prefer 30FPS for some experiences especially more cinematic ones(due to 30FPS being closer to the standard framerats used in theater movies and many

499$-600$ feels like the most realistic scenarios. I can’t see what’s being promised costing under that and, as you have said, the inclusion of the “Pro” models of the previous generations might well indeed have been a way to prime people for a costlier new gen in an incremental fashion.

After all it wasn’t just that

Most likely. I guess we’ll still need to see how much people will be willing to shell out if the upper-level estimate of it’s potential costs prove true(such as if it needs to sell up at PS3-level prices again to even just make up a “reasonable” loss instead of a massive one). Especially if the economic background

Pretty much. I think that’s why Nintendo had to very much scratch their head when they made they Switch as they likely realized that just making a stronger 3DS or stronger Wii-line model wouldn’t cut it anymore this time around.
Even if they had to cut backward compatibility(moving from a much different architecture

Switch’s controllers are indeed it’s biggest hurdle.

But if the PS5 end up the mistake of being stuck costing so much, as a console alone it might just further lead the Switch from being rebranded as “a fun but still costly console” to “fun budget console” of this generation because of how bad the price disparity

That’s a fun bit of trivia there I hadn’t thought about. That could play a bit with dedicated fans. I guess the mainstream market will be the deciding factor though.

I mean I can just think of my boss who *just* bought last Christmas a PS4 Pro brand new for their kid who will likely now have to contend with a *new*

Yeah, I’ll be curious.

It’ll remain to be seen if it is indeed another PS4 or if the success of the PS4 leads them to release another PS3(first generation) in a remake of their overconfidence coming out of the success of the PS2 and PS1.

I mean, they were actually able to turn the PS3 around so it technically became a

Tbh we were kind of spoiled by how long the PS3/360/Xbox generation was.

At that rate, we’re talking about such different amount of different achitecture, they might as well drop making a new console and merely make a “Playstation Retro” console separate from a PS5.

Retrocompatibility from PS3 to PS4 would have been itself a development nightmare because the consoles had such wildly

Not a bad scenario to be honest. And I say that as someone personally less interested in the PS5 but I could picture it.

To a degree I wonder how much the increase will matter. I recall players of PS4 vs PS4 Pro that felt like the ability to even enjoy the increase in graphic resolution almost required an investment of it’s own in TV let alone room logistic to even install the size of screen required to enjoy it at it’s “fullest”. So to

The question I can’t help but asks myself though is, if they release at “affordable” prices... is thus at “how much of a loss?” it will be.

I can’t imagine this being anywhere cheap to produce unless they have some *major* production chain logistic going up or something.

To be honest I’m kind of suspecting something like that.

Like, the only major “upgrade” I see would be something like the DS to DS Lite that changed mostly the form and improved the console but primarily in Quality of Life factors such as battery life/etc which IS a complaint about the Switch.

I don’t see a “horsepower”

I wonder how much the “stronger” version might just be something like the DS Lite that was indeed “improved” compared to the original DS but primarily in “Quality of Life”-fashion like battery life?

Also can “console SKUs” actually apply to stuff like themed consoles(like Switch with Zelda or pokemon-themed customized

Probably will pre-order it at my local gaming store instead but gosh am I looking forward for this.
Dipped back into X/Y recently after having barely touched it for 4 years. Just wanted to see if I could enjoy the game style again enough to warrant buying Sword or Shield and in the end I fell into the rabbit hole so

Probably will pre-order it at my local gaming store instead but gosh am I looking forward for this.
Dipped back into

Because google.

It’s kind if funny because my diary reaction was really just “took them long enough to copycat nintendo” and I hadn’t even thought of the implication for E3 which is where the Directs format Nintendo made its brilliant by removing the focus on gaming to make a splash with a single massive impact presentation at E3

I dunno about the no hype considering or was a pretty decent part of the recent nindies direct?

On my end, at this rate I just decided to let go of the idea of completing my Steam library, especially when I kept being bombarded with sales that’d tempt me to buy more games I’d never have time to play.
