Too bad, they released a lot of cool movies from great filmmakers. I actually got to see a Whit Stillman movie in a multiplex because of them.

I think “Greenberg” is great too! I like Baumbach’s lighter movies a little more but I still think it’s an affecting film. Top-notch Gerwig.
It’s interesting, the longer Baumbach’s filmography goes on, the more “Squid and the Whale,” “Margot at the Wedding,” and “Greenberg” start to look like outliers. They’re obviously Baumbach films, but they’re a little more curdled than the rest of his output, which ranges from the sweetness of “Frances Ha” to the…
One of the best movies ever made, that’s what!
I got to see “Dune” recently on the big screen as part of a David Lynch screening series and it completely blew me away. It’s definitely the worst Lynch film but it’s so startlingly different than the traditional studio blockbuster that you have no choice but to sit up and take notice.
Also, Kenneth McMillan as Baron…
Erinn Hayes is now free to be in a good show.
We’re one step closer to Tom Perrotta writing dialogue for Dr. Manhattan. What a world.
I think there’s a 15 minute limit? I know, I hate it too.
My favorite goofy Biblical allegory is the asshole guests breaking the sink, causing a burst of water and clearing everyone out, ala the Flood.
He definitely wrote the original script but I could have sworn I read somewhere that Coens did a revision for Clooney.
According to Bill Pope’s commentary on the “Darkman” blu-ray, the Coens and Sam Raimi always do a pass on each other’s scripts. Meaning, Sam Raimi did a rewrite on “Inside Llewyn Davis” and the Coens did a rewrite on “Oz, the Great and Powerful.”
Great article as always.
Of all the actors to turn into right wing nut jobs, James Woods hurts the most. Maybe he never left the Videodrome?
The absolute best way to watch “Miracle Mike” is to watch it thinking it’s just a romantic comedy and knowing nothing about the big twist.
Dirty Coop needed a dummy to get sucked into the Red Room rather than him. The goal was for Good Coop to swap places with Dougie and for one of Dirty Coop’s numerous hit men to kill Good Coop.
Quite a few shots in the teasers are from the last episode! I remember seeing shots of Coop driving and thinking “I know what scene that’s from.”
Very surprised! I figured it was going to be a big scene and maybe in one of the last episodes but not like this. I also had a thought it was Coop’s doppelgänger imitating Cooper and cleaning up some loose ends.
I don’t remember anything being filmed backwards but there definitely was deliberate choreography to how they moved. That long shot of them exiting the cars and walking up the steps was very carefully put together.
Counterpoint: Yeah but I want more.
I knew I got lucky when I saw Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee appear (neither of them had been spotted filming previously in Washington State and the Washington shoot was nearly complete) but I didn’t realize how lucky I was!
