update: mnerd is a rockstar. added the pbs channel, and now just have to scroll through 18 million listings until I get to PBS Newshour. yay! thanks. i've been wanting this for a while. Thought I had looked. Guess not!

i'll take a look!

how does push work for sparrow? does sparrow keep your creds on its servers, check your email from there, and send you notifications when a new one comes in?

i've tried looking into ad-blockers for JB'd iPhones, but there doesn't seem to be much out there...

Thanks for the thought, but setting up XBMC as a PVR isn't the way to go for this. (I've thought long and hard about getting an XBMC PVR going, but it's not for the faint of heart or wallet). Newshour videos are already online on their website. It would just be a matter of someone writing a script/plugin for XBMC

anyone know how to watch the PBS Newshour on XBMC?

I've been trying to figure out how to do something like this. The rub is that I have to dock my thinkpad into a small docking station [bit.ly] . Any creative ideas about how to integrate a docking station into a side-of-the-desk laptop setup?

If this uses EFS to encrypt files, then it's highly recommended to stay away! You'll most likely lose access to the files at some point in the future when you migrate computers and forget to unencrypt all your files beforehand (or perhaps forget where all those encrypted files are).

maybe you could hang onto your iPod hardware, and ditch the iOS software? [www.rockbox.org]

Or, buy the ATV 2 at a now-drastically-reduced price. depends on whether you really want 1080p or not.

does google apps count as "besides Gmail"?

I recently asked the same question over at majorgeeks: [forums.majorgeeks.com] . I was looking for something portable, and that would address external USB drives. I haven't yet found a good solution.

Slice has been SUCKING for me for a couple months now. It *rarely* picks up my orders and shipments. I've tried corresponding with their staff to resolve the problems, but no joy. Hope everyone else has better luck than I do!

ok XBMC team: ready, set, GO!

This all has to do with how far away from the screen you are, and hence how big the pixel is projected on your eye's retina. If you hold your ipad close to your face, the field of view taken by each square inch of your ipad's screen is much bigger than the field of view taken by each square inch your tv's screen as

cool - got twonky running as a server. Not necessarily totally intuitive to set up, but, in the end, it works. great!

slick, thanks alan. re: that first link, it links to LH's PLEX post, which AFAIK isn't an iOS DLNA server. perhaps i missed something...

Hmm, what about a DNLA *server* on a phone? From the sounds of it, Twonky is more of a client. A server kinda seems more natural in many ways. Set it your phone as a server, have xmbc or itunes or whatever find the DLNA phone server on the network, and then stream content off of it. A quick search comes up with [ww

off topic, but, anyone know if it's possible to do a VIN check on a car that's not (and presumably never was) in the US?

Joe Golton has some great advice about this topic. The base of his system is turning your monitor vertical and using the [readable.tastefulwords.com] bookmarklet. Golton's blog is a must-read for this topic, IMHO. [www.filterjoe.com]
