I don't mark newsletters *i actually sign up for* as spam. but, if just by doing business with a company i all of a sudden start getting their newsletters, then yep, spam box it is. Don't complain to me, Kelsey. Go talk to all those sleazy companies who automatically add you to their spam list. Or, even better, go

i always just relegated unwanted email to my spam folder in gmail. eventually gmail figures it out, and I figure that's a pretty good punishment for mass emailers (even if they're not technically spammers): getting your email classified as spam for all gmail users is a pretty heavy price.

follow connections until you find one in the field of interest. networking!

yeah, i think programmers are often treated like grunts. In addition to looking into teaching, perhaps you could also look for programming jobs at companies that respect the art of programming more that your previous company did. Wish I knew where to point you, though.

I found it best to work for free for a while. When a place gets to like you, they'll start to pay you, and go from there. Acceptable if you can handle it financialy, not so much if you're trying to feed your kids, etc.

not really about how to deal with *small* screens, but rather how to better use these wide-format 1920x1080 screen that are all over the place now. Joe Golton is of the opinion that wide screens, while good for multitasking for a related activities, are too often used to multitask for unrelated activities. He

Yes, windows search is *way* better than before. But from my perspective, that's like saying a turtle is faster than a snail. And as far as windows search being a good "start", I'm not sure that 20 years of development since Windows 3.1 (ok that's a stretch, but still...) should count as a "start".

Yeah, I had to toss out the index file a few times to get it running right, etc. But, I'm an IT guy, and I found it invaluable. Even if it chewed up a few CPU cycles now and again, I didn't notice it much (and I'm finicky about these things), and the speed of the search made up for any other downsides 100-fold

They definitely treated it like web search in the sense that it was a web interface, and I understand that being a bit unseemly. However, it was *fast* (unlike the chunk-chunk-chunk slowness of windows search), and it indexed a boatload of different filetypes very well, it searched web history very well, and it had a

Umm, no. Everything searches file names only. For me and for most average users, that is of *very* limited use.

Boy, I *really* want to type this in all caps, but i'll hold back (for now!). The demise of Google Desktop Search left windows users high and dry [albosure.blogspot.com] . As far as I can tell, there are NO good desktop search options out there for us.

dunno. but once you're signed up, you're good to go. They might have some help for you on their site.

check out unblock-us.com . i love it.

Do Not Track Plus is the first alternative to CSFire that I've seen. Great to have more tools like this coming along - finally! I have yet to look into how Do Not Track Plus works, but from LH's description, it sounds ok. What's not so great about it is that it doesn't block *all* third party cookies by default -

New as opposed to used? Or would factory-refurbished count as "new"?

I wonder if 1-year credit-card extended warranties apply to 90-day-warranty refurb items? Or, perhaps they'll just double the 90-day warranty? Or perhaps won't work at all? Anyone know?

So, is the extra space you get on dropbox permanent, or does that extra space also timeout with the beta?

the weakest point of all of this is knowing how long that sock (or grommet, or whatever) has been there. i'm not about to put a label on each one with it's date of entry.
