i'm on my way to ditching cable. But for those that have: how many of you have significant others that don't want to mess with technology, and just want to turn it on and "watch"? I think it'd be possible with an XBMC setup, some automatically downloaded stuff, etc. But, the bar is higher with someone else wanting

Launch mintty from a right-click on a folder in explorer by running the following command (after installing cygwin): "chere -i -t mintty -s bash" [groups.google.com]

Yeah, it wouldn't be a total walk in the park. If you do feel like picking it up at some point, there are surely some forums out there teeming with folks who would be keen to help you out.

i think your time would be better spent searching for books based on what you really love, instead of what is cheap. All books (save for textbooks and the like) are cheap for what you get. No point searching for bargains.

I've seen plenty of free offers for amazon kindle books - they come up every day. But if I'm going to spend 20 hours in front of a book, I'm sure as hell not going to read it just cause it's free or cheap! $10 for a book you actually want to read is WAY worth your time, in comparison to a free book that you, eh?,

Interesting idea - i'll let you know. thanks john!

thanks!

If you're using Google Voice, GVMAX [lifehacker.com] is a better option IMHO.

I have an in on a somewhat-broken Grundig RCD 2000 system with wireless speakers. The guy is giving it away, as the wireless is only connecting intermittently, etc. Think it's worth diving it to try to fix this guy? Kinda hard to find info on it - seems to have only been marketed in germany or something.

I've really like Iambic's Agendus. It'll work on top of palm desktop or outlook. Mobile solutions still lacking, but you can just sync via itunes and outlook for the iphone. Whatever solutions work for android and outlook should work for android and agendus as well. It's not flawless, but does offer a bunch of

There are a couple basic ways to do it, that I know of. The first is to use the old and reliable wget [secure.wikimedia.org] , perhaps with a GUI to make it more manageable (e.g. [www.jensroesner.de] ).

hmm - did you try resetting the router to default settings, and starting again from there?

TheFu is right about an unlocked GSM phone, and getting quad-band will mean you can traipse worry-free around the globe. I prefer nokias, and the following ebay search will come up with all the quad-band nokias i know about:

update: when I activate the camera from lockscreen, i get prompted for my passcode, and then i just get the homescreen. For quick camera activation, i don't want to have to enter my passcode at all anyway. Any idea how to get around that?

hmm, yeah, i did, but strangely still doesn't work. oh well...

hmm. i have lockinfo installed, and activator actions don't seem to work for me from the lockscreen...

i've been trying to find good alternatives to trackthepack ever since they put a 5-package per month on their free accounts. I want something that has both mobile and web interfaces, and that also provides an email-groking service (where you can forward a shipping email to them, and they'll automatically start

hmm. i'm on an iPhone 3G, multitasking off, using backgrounder and multifl0w. those familiar with switcherplus, does this bring me anything i don't already have?

One of the most clever and strangely exciting ideas i've ever come across: the MIT Time Traveler Convention. [web.mit.edu] I even bought a t-shirt back in '05. Hmm, i gotta dig it up...
