Yeah, but now you also admitted to being extremely far behind on Mad Men, so I can look down on you for that.

Friday night/Saturday Morning:Watched the first 2 episodes of Veronica Mars Season 2, which is very good so far.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll have a semi-thoughtful update on "how was your pop culture weekend" on Monday morning, but right now I need to sleep and regain my coherence.

I don't think I could watch it that fast, especially since I'll spend 2 weeks doing Army stuff between now and August 11. Still, I might be able to catch up by the finale.

I have the first couple episodes of the following shows, none of which I have seen any of. Which one should I start watching this weekend?

Eh, you had Leyte Gulf, Guadalcanal, and a heck of a lot of shore bombardment and anti-aircraft defense. It's a pretty active record for something that was largely a strategic deterrent.

Apparently it's the first acting award she has ever won.

I have great respect for Air National Guard members. But, of the National Guard deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq, over 99% have been Army National Guard, not Air National Guard.

On the other hand, it was posted well before sunrise. That's something.

It's a bit unfair that people associate the Air National Guard with draft avoidance, when all of the Reserve/Guard components were like that during Vietnam.

I spent the weekend at drill for the Army Reserve, so I didn't do much with pop culture. But I have a couple of relevant observations.

Regarding that private, there's absolutely no way he would have a chest full of medals like that. That was as much an invention of Don's mind as Megan wanting to share him with other women.

I watched True Grit (2010). That's some seriously good Coen Brothers stuff right there. Rapier dialogue, intricate plotting, masterful direction and cinematography, and of course superb acting. Hailee Steinfeld is spectacular. Although it was a dumb idea for the studio to push for her to get a supporting Actress Oscar

It was Joey, not Stan. After Peggy meets Abe at that weird countercultural party with Joyce, she has the following exchange:

So, Duck Phillips has now appeared in 5 out of 6 seasons.  That's more seasons than Henry, Megan, Sal and Carla were in.

Security work on holidays is great, if you work at a site not open to the general public. Almost all of the workers are gone, so nobody bothers you about stuff.

Drilling Army Reservist here. Today I'm working the night shift on my civilian job and then sleeping, but I should probably stop by the nearest war memorial this afternoon.

Veterans Day is for veterans, Memorial Day is for those who died in wartime service and didn't get to become veterans.

Jon Hamm has no Emmies, and nobody has ever received an Emmy for acting in Mad Men. He did get a Golden Globe for Season 1.
