Police cars should be highly visible in order to slow traffic by visual identification, and to prevent citizens with standard black Explorers from posing as cops.

That’s because those steel wheels are indestructible when ramming over curbs and sidewalks and such. An alloy wheel won’t hold up to such abuse. Also cost.

I kind of curious about cop cars these days. Growing up, almost all of them were visible, marked police cruisers. Very rarely did you run across an unmarked car. These days though, I rarely see marked cruisers, and I see a lot more “hidden” police cars, and aren’t just one make/model, they are all over the spectrum.
