You make a good point. It’s far worse when someone who does not want to be there stays, with their indifference, intolerance, disinterest, anger, superiority, lies, gaslighting, etc...but they turn on the charm for everyone else. That kind of duplicity messes kids up for decades.

Mine did, too, and somewhere along the line I realized that was such a gift because I didn’t have his toxic issues in my life. A person who CAN walk away from their child maybe should.
