Since it's a reference for use on a green screen set I suppose they could be using a different color for technical reasons, but the final CGI Thing will be a more traditional color.

You could argue it's the same character arc that Mickey took but it definitely felt more "earned" with Rory. He was fantastic.

I never heard that rumor, but to be fair it would have been really difficult to include the classic Doctors as the Doctor. I mean, I was able to buy Peter Davison in the Time Crash special because I just loved it so much. But watch the Five(ish) Doctors special that Davison made and it's clear they have all aged out…

That definitely would have put a different spin on it. That and the studio cut out, what, 30/40 minutes of footage that dealt with character development and actually laid out the theme of the film, so they could do more screenings for more money. Sigh.
