I don't understand why people don't see this parallel more. I am a huge fan of death metal and black metal - it is visceral, over-the-top but that doesn't make it any less impressive as an art form. Mortal Kombat is exactly that and I am glad the series has continued.

Well it is completely opt-in so I don't see the issue with it. People know what they are getting into, and it provides a way for the developer to continue working and the consumer to interact directly with something they believe in.

Yeah I would agree with the Shark and Reptile designs...those are pretty boss. The oscillating quality on the art worries me though for those that invested. And the character animations are kind of shitty thus far.
I think there's a big difference art-wise between Darkstalkers and this weird Furry Fighter or whatever it is. Isn't my cup of tea, and it is kind of creepy looking instead of badass looking like Darkstalkers is and was.
It's kind of sad that this article is even needed. I personally haven't watched many, but the few speed runs I've watched have been really fun to see particularly if I beat the game when I was young. The nostalgia remains and I am in awe of the things that people have figured out in their pursuit of the fastest run.
