Have you tried playing the games instead of talking about them? You also have a choice at one point to play "Solo" or "Co-op" with your friend. Might have something to do with it.

Yup! The trick is to delve into your thoughts about his uncle and about your Mew. Then you look at the pictures on the wall and realize something. Then you ask your friend about his uncle without fighting him and get him to confess. Then you get a choice at the end that will make the difference between endings 4 & 5.
