Ah, thanks! As I was writing that, I realized I probably sounded just ignorant. I used to read from my dad's dusty old compendium of Batman comics and always found the darkness of his character riveting. Superman never stood out to me as a hero anywhere as interesting, even as a kid, but obviously enough people do

IMO, I just think Superman is kind of a boring character anyway. He's just too... perfect? I dunno, but I just can't picture a Superman movie being as interesting as something like Dark Knight.

Awesome. I'm glad you got out and found something special again. :)

I love your eyeshadow! And these are awesomely down to earth. If I were to post any engagement photos on Facebook, they'd probably be along these lines.

Yes! My dad and his fiancé just sent out their save-the-dates with their engagement photos, and holy crap they are fuckin' fancy.

Enjoy that body while it lasts, girl! But seriously, I agree - I don't think I could have ever done it because I just don't think I'd be able to have the right combination of emotional detachment & courage. Also I have an addictive personality, and that amount of money probably wouldn't have been the healthiest thing

You know, I had been considering renting Blue Jasmine on iTunes before this all came up (mainly for Louis CK). But since reading that essay, I just don't think I will, probably ever. I can't be the only one who feels this way, and I'd be satisfied knowing his career took a Gibson-esque blow as a direct result of

I honestly look back at my early 20s and sometimes wish I had done it. I had a bangin' bod and was pretty promiscuous for a while there. I could have paid off a LOT of debt. Oh well.

Oh dear. Did things work out?

Gosh, I sound like such a scrooge on this thread (sorry!). Maybe I'm just hypersensitive to the rings photos because I see the way a lot of my engaged/married friends are just immediately like "OMG LEMME SEE THE RING" and I know the way they fawn over the diamonds. Which is very much not my style, not to mention kind

I've thought of that too. My sister's wedding photos, while gorgeous, were SO expensive. I'm actually a big fan of the disposable cameras at everyone's tables. :)

I don't think they are necessarily a bad thing, at all! Just wanted to clarify. In fact most of the ones I see are pretty tasteful... I was more just commenting on the fact that it seems like nowadays everyone gets them, whereas I don't think it was such a "must" 15-20 years ago.

YES! What is up with the ring portraits?? Those are so bizarre!

Didn't know this was a thing. Will now be obsessed with trying said ale.

I've never been engaged so have no personal experience with them, but have definitely noticed this going from just a trend to full blown tradition in just like 10 years. I don't ever remember seeing engagement photos in the 90s, but now it seems like everyone has to get them.

As someone with probably the world's worst case of foot-in-mouth-syndrome, just wanted to pop in to empathize and say you're not a creepy jerk. :) We all make mistakes sometimes.

I wish I could star this 1000x. You would think the Sandusky thing helped educate the public more on what grooming looks like, but apparently not. Although it was horrifying, I'm really glad I watched Deliver Us From Evil. It was an amazing insight into the behaviors and mindset of a child molester, and I think about

Yes, I came to say the exact same thing.

ETA: I'm sorry you lost your dad, especially at such a young age. I hadn't thought about it until your comment, but I think I do see my old self in Hannah too. She hasn't been exposed to the nitty gritty of the world yet, but it eventually happens to everyone at some point. And it's pretty much always a rude

I was mad at her too. Maybe just because with my dad (and most dudes I've known in general), he would never bring something like that up if he didn't REALLY need to talk about it. I felt so sorry for her poor father after they hung up.
