Does the Type Cover draw power directly from the Surface? I'm trying to find out if it needs to be charged (because it seems small to have a battery) or if draws its power directly from the tablet. If so, and I imagine it needs little power, what would the affects be like on the battery life?

For the most part when I've used one all the drivers are managed on the computer as if the keyboard/mouse are plugged directly into it. The KVM switch has only really played a role in determining which computer it routes the controls to.

I think you're out of luck starting with "I did a system erase and restore once." That's all it takes. Outside of paying a healthy amount I'm sure.
