Just a KVM switch but don't connect your monitors to it. Just use it to toggle keyboard and mouse and have your independent monitors. The hotkeys have always worked instantly for me, so if I hit my Scroll Lock twice in a row it toggles the keyboard and mouse.

I think it's also just easier to get the point across with an animated GIF though. If we saw a bunch of static GIFs we could all just be staring at JPEGs for all we knew unless we saved the file (or further lengths).
