I think we would see salaries sky-rocket if players (agents?) were more willing to accept shorter deals. As a fan of the rich Yankees, I too do not want Harper or Machado for 10 years. It would be interesting to know who is less willing to come to terms with a $200M five year contract - the owners or the players.
