That’s a pretty ‘we’re hip with the times and gendrum spectrum aware' way of saying 'no tits.'

I thought IKEA always did this. When my husband and I moved into a new apartment in New York in 1991 we rented a car and drove over to Elizabeth to go to the IKEA. We’d never been to one. We walked through the showrooms armed with our notepads. We wrote down all kinds of things, a sofa, bookcases, pots and pans,

What I want is an IKEA that only has the food store, so I can pick up my salmon-paste-in-a-tube without walking through the elaborate maze.

To me, the ‘having it all,’ myth means that you have a successful career, time to devote to your kids/partner/home, are in great shape (which takes more time unless your career is physical), while also maintaining friendships and a social/cultural life. It’s a lot.

“lean in" = because don't ask the men in charge to do anything; try to make major changes all by yourself, you peon! Don't forget to smile!

A family friend told me when I was about 21 that you can have it all but you can’t have it all at the same time and I’ve never forgotten that. It’s so true, especially if your version of “it all” is career and family.

And the thing is, the poetry world (of actual published/award-winning poets and those who enjoy their work) is small. A lot of people are reading the same little chapbooks. If you plagiarize published work, it’s only a matter of time before you get caught. So this isn’t just assholery. It’s really breathtaking

I dunno, I think having the words she stole permanently tattooed on her is...

if i wrote a poem, someone plagiarized it, and then had the gd audacity to get a tattoo of my words on their body??? i’d have a very hard time being as civil as mckibbens.

I got my BA and MA in writing and I could NOT believe how many people plagiarized work in the time I was there, most of whom totally got busted. It was embarrassing enough when people stole from famous novelists but a year after I graduated, someone turned in a paper I WROTE with like one word in every sentence

As a parent, I can tell you the ratings are mostly useless, especially across the PG-13/R divide, and you really have to use the online resources to know what to expect.

Your response is way better than mine. Mine was “Huh.” I mean, when you start jacking around with laws to make them bend to your will, Kansas legislators, I suppose it’s only natural that others would do the same. And, of course, either way women get the short end of the stick. Huh.

Super interesting -  Thank you. Also, I’m a married to a prof who is very into public facing research work and I know that it is extra on top of what you do for your job - so thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with the public!

“Tuition stands at a little under $5,000 a year.”

Wow that is very interesting. I didn’t realize this. Here’s my guess:

Every WOMAN is one bad night away from being beat, raped or murdered. Especially if you’re single. In fact, sex workers are often safer because their clients are screened well.

This is a hard point of view to stick to, since large numbers of professions put a woman at above a .00001% chance they’ll end up harming their baby. I work a relatively highly regarded job that you probably wouldn’t think would put a baby at risk, and the last woman who was pregnant was told she had to stop working a

most activities have a <.0001% chance it could harm a baby. Lifting boxes. Being in a car. Stepping off a tall kerb. There is a much greater chance of the bay harming a woman though sooooo.

What are women supposed to do, wrap up in lots of squishy duvets and make a nest in a bed?

Great article; I hope we can move closer to a world (America) with less judgment on sex workers. There is no shame in the work and in my mind it’s ‘cleaner’ than a lot of the bullshit people do for a living/companies they work for.
