This summarizes my feelings on this car perfectly.

—You, standing in the seller’s trailer which reeks of pot, dirty dishes and leaking propane: “Hey, can see that folder you mentioned?”
The seller coaxes a last drag off the tiny joint and leans forward in his torn BarcaLounger, never taking his bloodshot eyes off the Judge Judy rerun playing on the cracked Insignia.…
And if we’re honest, the cars in George Miller’s movies look way cooler than this.
I agree this thing needs some kind of big gas V8 just because it’s more fun, but the Ford 7.3 is by far and away the most valuable thing about this car. Those powertrains still change hands for good money because they will outlive civilization itself.
If I was drunk, won the lottery and if it had a big ol’ Mopar V8, I would consider it.
...kudos to your tenacity and iron will.
There’s several red flags in the ad but look at this one: “These are recent pictures. I did not have the date set in my camera”. In 2023, who is selling cars on Craigslist with a point and shoot camera that date stamps the images?
“...many of the photos in the ad have date stamps from 2011 on them...” As if things don’t change when 12 years go by. Plus right-hand drive. Plus those awful wheels. Equals ain’t gonna happen--ND to the 10th power.
When I first saw that I thought it was a grenade-based security system a la Mad Max.
I could be wrong, but that looks an awful lot like an RX-7 FC with extensive body work. The window and what remains of the original B pillar look similar enough, but hard to tell without seeing more.
Thanks for saving me the hassle of uploading an image to Kinja. This was my instant first thought when I saw this thing.
This is what I was thinking. If someone wanted a pristine P1800, they are looking for an original. And just like you mentioned, it’s just not “modded” enough to go for this kind of cash as a resto.
Too customized to be valued as even a restomod, and not restomoddy enough to be a restomod. An original P1800 this clean might get to money, but the seller is delusional if they think they’re getting 34K for this inbetweener, especially with no A/C. I don’t hate the build but CP pricing.
I am pretty sure these are a bit fickle, but I think the risk is worth the reward. I despise the interior in this car though.
Yeah... It might be easy to get back on the road, or a major project needing specialized expertise. Its status (laid up 10 years, partly disassembled) and age and mileage add up to many known unknowns and unknown unknowns. At least the seller is candid about this (inherited car, and perhaps the gearhead gene skipped a…
Isn’t anybody going to mention the wires dangling from the dash? Let me check my notes... nope, that’s not a good sign either.
