I traveled internationally with an infant three times in three months (about 72 hours of travel, in total).

I once played peek-a-boo with a toddler on his way home from DisneyWorld (I live in FL and was flying out of Orlando). He also told me in adorable babble-speak all about Mickey and his new ears. It was the best flight experience I’ve ever had.

Note: my twins are young and I’m no expert (are any of us?). Sometimes I have no idea what will soothe them. Sometimes faces do work! They love exaggerated faces and noises—it often makes them giggle.
When I’ve been in non-flying situations (I haven’t flown with them yet), like church, concerts, etc., I can tell that

I’ve had some kind souls spend hours playing peek-a-boo with my kids on planes, it was much appreciated.

You sound like a screaming baby yourself. Grow up.

So sad. I will be watching my Buffy the Vampire Slayer Blu-Ray (original movie) in his honor.

This is not a particularly hot take, but I have 2 kids. One of them is 9 months, the other is almost 4. Guess which one is the most annoying to fly with? (It’s the older one).

Jesus, that person needs to get over whatever environmental bugaboos they have and commit to disposable for the flight. No one deserves that kind of horror show.

I would much prefer the parents of 3-13 year olds to march onto a plane wearing a sandwich board that reads “I’m aware of my responsibility to make sure my child does not kick your seat, throw food, or otherwise disturb you. Please let me know if I’m failing”

That is genuinely a good question, for which there are a variety of answers. And nearly all of those answers are subject to either bad faith assumptions or the gravity of paternalistic norms on bodily sanctity and “purity”, etc.- my own included. I think this is closest to how I feel about it, though:

Sex work should be decriminalized, so as not to punish sex workers. Sex work should be regulated, in an effort to protect sex workers. But sex work should also be understood epidemiologically and historically as an overwhelmingly female occupation because of the inherent imbalances of the sexes that the spectrum of

Essentially no. In the last decade there has been an increase in protests outside abortion providers, due to an influx of money and tactics from US based pro-life groups. However, in the UK abortion is considered to be a medical, rather than a moral issue and our parliament is guided by medical opinion in the matter.

I have watched this movie exactly once, and hopefully never will again (my dad has dementia now, so fuck watching this for fun. Why do people do it to themselves???). I do remember that feeling of being manipulated into having tears wrung out of me, which I don’t appreciate in my leisure time. But my main memory of

I wonder how much mommy drinking would be reduced if men did a fucking load of laundry or bought groceries without being reminded or asked. You know...the same household chores these guys presumably did BEFORE they got married.

Hard agree. I have a job that provides me with decent work/life balance. I’ve dealt with some bullshit, but mostly feel valued. It pays me pretty well. It’s not “my bliss,” but that’s why I have a life outside of work.

This is absolutely a Gen X movie. When it came out “millennial” meant whatever you were thinking of doing for Y2K.

Maybe Jack should travel to a country where hunger is rampant and ask those people how they deal with time slowing down. I bet they have ideas.

As a parent, I can’t imagine how heart-wrenching this must have been. Thank you for being brave enough to share it.
