Dropping G’s is pretty common across the English speaking world. That’s a weird aspect to single out.

Dropping G’s is also an Irish thang, hence the Boston accent. There are many crossovers in colonialized peoples’ English (Irish, AAs, Indian, Caribbean, etc).

parts of this is extremely flawed. Dropping Gs is common in many places. In England it’s called country English. In the states we do it in Boston, Chicago, Texas, in the south, and the biggest offenders are New yorkers and Irish Americans.

Yeah I’m Canadian, and people from different regions of Canada tend to drop the g. As do a lot of pop singers in general.

I’m still laughing at Carly Fiorina pretending to be a feminist. Does she actually know what that word means? If Carly was a feminist, she we would not be Carly.

It doesn’t even matter if it’s a Boston thing. Dropping g’s in lyrics can smooth out words and avoid them ending on harsh sounds. It sounds better to the ear.

You are correct. It's also a feature of Southern and Mid-Atlantic accents. Most informal speech drops g and r and shortens syllables in some manner.

Prioritizing repealing Hyde, which prevents tax dollars from paying for abortions is kind of vital when your largest campaign plank is making all health care tax dollar funded.

I have to say, my vageen is pretty pleased by Clinton's remarks. The Kegels I did before voting for her really paid off.

Both Hillary and Bernie would have protected women’s reproductive rights, so it wasn’t really something they needed to debate in the primary. The few times it came up, the argument was about whether or not Bernie would prioritize it as high as Hillary would, but there wasn’t any daylight between them on the issue

I’m also not questioning the article, but yes, being from MA you are correct....she’s from Nantucket/Martha’s Vineyard and the accent on the island is close but not quite Boston. It’s more of a Rhode Island...I guess you could call it a “lesser” Boston accent. Which is kind of what she has.

Popular music is part of everyone’s culture. So nothing is being appropriated. I dislike Meghan Trainor but she grew up heavily exposed to music made by both white and black people. That’s her culture.

Well two important things happen at the federal level:

I sort of questioned his inclusion in this....he seems to be pretty true to himself.

Also not denying appropriation. But I thought dropping g’s was typical of all US accents. I’m probably going to start paying a lot more attention now.

“Wallace notices the Nantucket-born and bred singer dropping her g’s and utilizing what is understood to be African American Vernacular English.”

I’m glad reproductive rights are becoming an issue that the Democrats are owning again. It’s weird that this started in the general rather than the primary, but still good.

It made more than $142 million dollars. When it comes to action movies, it doesn’t matter how the movie does in the U.S. anymore. It matters how it does in China.

Expecting the studios to do the “right” thing is never going to happen. As I said, casting people of color is less of a priority than selling tickets.

It always amazes me how critics of Hollywood’s overt racism with respect to casting are unable to grasp that the studios are primarily motivated by the desire to make money, not to fill racial quotas.
