Someone I know focused her dissertation was on this very topic. Its tragic effects in West Africa and cancer as a consequence are kept on the qt.

I concur. It’s why the French would have the temerity to suggest Gerard Depardieu play him in a biopic.

“Lee Malone”. Yes, I wish they would. In gratitude to & with reverence for those who preceded us, Happy Juneteenth!

Yeah, I was disappointed by what struck me as insecurity, cowardice, condescension & gratuitous attack which fell like dominoes in that order. He looks especially stupid in light of her masterful (1 min 11 second) response in “Song 33".

Thank you for this. You for this article; Noname for the song. This has all been so disappointing...but familiar. In a climate that’s hella triggering & (re)traumatizing, this gives me joy. Thank you.

Thank you for this. I definitely battle guilt because as a young teen, I protested the Rodney King verdict. The cops recorded us with camcorders. I have been physically away for a while so it feels like the least I can do is bear witness. But I thank you for these words because I’ve sincerely meant them when I’ve said Read more

I’m sorry you were in such distressing circumstances. So glad you survived, seem to be self-actualized & vocal about injustices to boot. Hugs. Read more

I don’t know what to do at this point. It feels disrespectful to turn away from the repeated horrors against us, but continually facing them is excruciating AND toxic. Wait, what did Eddie Glaude say/do? I’ve only ever seen him searingly express the hypocrisy and hatefulness directed towards us. Was it somehow connected to reconciliation as a spiritual principle? I know that’s one that religious Black folks worldwide often default to as a sign of “not stooping to their level”.

Why, thank you! Lol. Aww, what a cute story. And I’m definitely NOT grinning or blushing at my screen at the thought of myself having such an encounter with him. Nor am I swooning over his height or the potential ahem, er, stamina of your gym mate. I just think it’s great that he exercises cos it’s good for mental and Read more

Necessary reminder. I actively avoid the news now and even debate checking out the root because the majority of “newsworthy” stuff about us is triggering or traumatizing. I don’t want to seem like I’m ignoring our suffering but it’s also really too much for me to take in without feeling I’m completely breaking down. Read more
