And I will tell you that as an owner of an EV with 230ish miles of range, I’ve never felt range anxiety—but there have been many, many days where an 80 mile EV simply wouldn’t have cut it, or would have been such a pain in the ass that it would have soured me on the EV idea altogether.

230 miles = complete lack of

The universe of people for whom this will work is much smaller than the universe of people for whom 200+ miles will work. Not saying there aren’t people who will be persuaded...but this is not a recipe for selling a lot of cars.

Heck, I have nearly the ideal use case for a car like this—short commute, have charging

It’s also important to remember that the “80 mile” figure won’t take into account worse case scenarios like cold weather and the attendant cabin and battery heating, where energy use can be 2 or 3X normal. A nominal 80 mile range may drop to 40 or less in the winter.

I mean, in 2011 when the Leaf was announced, that

Honda’s complete inability to figure out the EV market mirrors its spectacular failure to capitalize on its early hybrid success. How can it be that one of the first companies to actually offer a hybrid drivetrain is so far behind the curve here?

80 miles? Jesus Christ, that’s absurd.

The difference between tragedy and irony:

It’s a new technique. We mock what we don’t understand.

I would be AMAZED if they knew what the Russian flag looked like.

This is so excellent. I am just disappointed no one thought to hand out the Ukrainian flag. Or the Soviet flag. Or all three.

With that front wing, they should have sought a sponsorship from Gillette.

“Too big to have a manual?”

Interesting. I’ve put about 30,000 miles on mine, many on the highway at similar speeds for similar durations, and have never had that experience.

Hey, now. It’s not a Mustang.

I disagree. The car does in fact have this performance. When driven on the street, you can use it basically as much as you want and never encounter an issue.

“Should a kid “resist” being dragged away by an adult they don’t know? Probably!”

Thank you for your well thought out and informative perspective on this—it’s very helpful. But especially thank you for the above. I would absolutely want my kids to resist being taken by an unknown person, and I would absolutely hope

They were trying to prevent a kidnapping?

Yes, Teslas are not good on the track.

BUT I HAVE THE RIGHT TO PROTEST! IT IS GUARANTEED UNDER THE CONSTITUTION THAT MY ANCESTORS FOUGHT AND DIED TO SECEDE FROM!

Yeah, my dealer was pretty good about working to get the labor good willed when it happened to me (I still had to buy the $1000ish part). Or maybe it was vice versa? But it was definitely not covered under the CPO warranty.

I spent the rest of the time I owned that car giving it the side-eye every time I parked under

Oh, boy, I didn’t need to see that.

The only thing that’s given me any joy over the last 24 hours is imaging the first interaction between Miller and McMaster, during which I assume McMaster will either a) physically snap Miller in two, or b) just completely ignore him and pretend he does not exist. Either works for
