Most of the good will for the show came from the pilot episode, directed by Michael Mann, and specifically from the opening sequence, which was a flash forward to events that finally happened in season 2. It really needed to be shown because otherwise people would have felt cheated. The pilot bought a lot of interest

So, the guy got fired from many young comedians’ dream job. This was in response to a public outcry arising from hist racist comments on a podcast, and a portion of the comedy audience effectively disavowed him and continues to do so as seen in the current blowback to his being offered a hosting gig.

Maybe Al Franken will cameo in the episode, to deal the finishing blow to the most insufferable people on the internet.

What a brave take about a situation you have absolutely zero insight into.

The fact that she didn’t and bought all the false ideas about all the big things coming makes me think the actress is closer to the character than we though.

The Brooklyn Museum has been a sad place for years now.

Is it just me, or are pop culture writers the only group more obsessed with Chris Pratt than Hollywood executives?

When BI was made, Michael Douglas was an Academy Award winning actor with a lot of box office successes under his belt. Stone was a rising star who had a breakout role in Total Recall, but had never (?) been a lead actress in a film.

Yeah, the pay gap is a real issue and a serious one. This is not an example of that. This is an example of a mega star getting paid much more than someone  who wasn't one.

The “pay gap” issue is for actors who are in a comparative position in their career. Pair up an unknown actor with Emma Stone and he’s gonna earn only a fraction of her salary also, as he should.

In their early synthpop stage . . . and this wierd plastic goth/stadium rock hybrid they subsequently turned into

I think DM losing Alan Wilder was a bigger loss than Vince Clarke. They made a couple of good albums after Wilder, but I never thought they were as sonically as interesting without him.

I’m old, but still a bit shocked “People are People” isn’t on here. I heard it isn’t one of their favorites, but it was their first hit in the US (and I think second biggest ever). I know it’s the first song of theirs I remember. And putting on my 2023 hindsight glasses, it seems like it would be pretty high on this

There are a lot I think are missing, though I wouldn’t know where to slot them.

What 80s band would you take over Depeche Mode? Winger? Kajagoogoo?

I guess I’m older than whoever made this list, as Some Great Reward is my Depeche Mode album of choice. I can understand being tired of People are People, but Somebody and/or Master and Servant definitely merit inclusion on this list.

There’s literally a joke about her drumming in School Of Rock, which came out in 2003

Actually, HBO is mostly safer with the new guys.

I’m really not a high culture snob, but boy framing discussions over whether or not art “squanders IP” is pretty depressing.

I get that they want to keep the model similar to the original, but it would’ve been fun to see Dan as the judge and Harry’s daughter as the prosecutor.
