He was a comedian, albeit one that I never found particularly funny. He’s clearly joking in the one picture that I saw, and grabbing someone’s butt during a photo in the past sounds like a juvenile attempt at humor as well...it hardly seems like sexual predatory behavior, or some weird power trip.

The commentariat of Jez/Splinter/et al has not been great in the whole Franken saga, to say the least. (To be clear, there have been great, smart posts here on Jez, but way too many people willing excuse his behavior. Splinter has been a pretty solid clusterfuck of apologists all along.)

lol remember when everyone here was defending that SNL women letter?

He’d better fucking resign. Dems need to show everyone that, unlike Pubs, they are willing to kick predatory assholes to the curb.

In the case of Spacey and Weinsten we are talking decades of people being complacent while they both continued to prey on innocent people with impunity.

He’s such an amazing human being, it’s people like Oliver that gives me that tiny dash of hope, I mean I love Jon Stewart but the way he dismissed the Louis C.K. stuff broke my heart a bit so seeing Colbert and Oliver stick it to these assholes made me feel just a little better, ya know?

Preet Bharara had an interview with Judd Apatow on his podcast a few weeks ago and it was really interesting to hear two seemingly “powerful” men talk about it. Apatow had some really interesting insights after working in Hollywood. Made me think a lot about ally-ship and complicity and who speaks up when and how

What John Oliver did was, literally, heroic. There are plenty of people who relish being the skunk at the garden party, and he’s not one of them. When I’ve seen him do things like this in the past, he looks really uncomfortable with it; even a bit scared. A hero isn’t someone who’s fearless; a hero is someone who is

I adore John Oliver.

This is what being an ally looks like! Thank you, John Oliver, for using your privilege to hold Hoffman accountable. For any men wondering ‘what do I do’, this is it. You speak up and don’t let abusers get away with idiotic responses.

Without bipartisanship we are doomed to unsustainable legislation and executive action that oscillates every 4-8 years. Congress is dysfunctional but it should be clear by now that it can and will get worse if we don’t strive for something more than party line votes.

Having been a DNC delegate I can tell you the current stalemate involves active resentment and strategy from Democrats as much as Republicans. I am independent who often votes for democratic presidents who can attest to a stubborn and vitriolic refusal to collaborate with conservatives in my district. And what I saw

There are differences in the House and Senate versions that have to be resolved and then the whole bill must be voted on in its final state. This Washington Post article explains the differences.

FUCK OFF DR. KELLY!!!

That’s what scares me most. Innocent kids not being vaccinated due to this crap and dying of preventable diseases, possibly taking other people’s kids who couldn’t be vaccinated due to age or allergies with them. This is the left’s version of that propaganda that places like Fox and Breitbart churn out and is proof

Telling people with Major Depression not to take antidepressants is really dangerous. Certainly some people can do okay without medication but it also helps thousands of people to live fuller lives (or to keep living entirely.) I wonder how she explains how it has helped so many.

Is she a Scientologist?

I think this will be a contentious case that could go all the way to SCOTUS. I think an immediate stay will be implemented which helps GSENM but not BENM, which is really just a piece of paper still. Its clearly uncertain that the executive has this authority but its also uncertain if its only vested in Congress,

Lawsuits will be immediate an what Trump is doing is a legally untested flex of executive power. This will take years to resolve but could alter land management forever.

There’s also a red-footed variety...

Probably, the aren’t small birds.
