I hate to say this but even 2000 years ago, people wanted to look more “white” as it were. These mummies are indeed, Roman and Greek descended, and most likely portraits were lightened up as well as embellished in other ways. Even now there is a visible difference between Alexandrian Egyptians and Cairene Egyptians.
