I have found pockets of movies over the years that for some bewildering reason or other keep me engaged and I look forward to re-watching. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with their quality as good or bad cinema.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Yeah, it’s a damn mystery.

But you know what obvious question that brings up: why do you watch any movies, much less art-house material that probably less than 1% of the population would pay any attention to?

It sounds like they are losing substantial support, though, and major light is being shed on something that very few were probably aware of prior to this. There is such a thing as bad publicity, and they are getting heaps of it.

That’s more than the Fyre Festival Fuckheads had available for the attendees.

L’Avventura starts off with a great idea (someone vanishes but instead of it being a mystery or thriller about that, it drifts away into something else) but never really capitalizes on it.

It can be We can enjoy two things!

Man U just had to go there didn’t U

There’s definitely tons of those guys, and tons of awful shit that gets swept under the rug, too, that we don’t even hear about. The NFL in particular (well, football in general, the college scene is royally fucked too) needs to up its ethics game for sure.

That’s interesting. Do you think those companies’ legal teams genuinely think they’d be in violation, or maybe they know they’d win but the investment wouldn’t be worthwhile?

Sports fandom is by definition irrational, no doubt. Having said that, there is typically a very strong strategic and intellectual component to virtually any major sport, and (American) football is no exception.

It’s probably Fight Club for me, which I would put in the 25-30 viewings range, though most of those probably came within two years of its release.

Damn, I’ve only seen Primer once and kinda thought “man, I could watch this a hundred times and it probably wouldn’t help”. Not that I didn’t like it, I just figured my head would keep spinning ever faster.....

I am constitutionally incapable of passing one of those by

I know it’s a very popular “ironic” classic for folks of a certain age (mine), and I’m not going to sit here and tell you it’s Fellini or anything but it’s a genuinely rad movie. They embraced what they were doing and fucking NAILED it.

The bass is overriding the vocals

“That’s not Lake Minnetonka.”

One of the most quotable and eminently re-watchable films of all time.

I don’t care about it one way or another now, but I’m pretty sure it’s the only film I saw theatrically (first run) three times. I was 16 and it just hit that spot, you know? My tastes have changed a lot (jeez, I hope so) over the years but those theater trips are permanently embedded in my memory.
