Indeed there was a time in my life when I did feel like I had it all. A couple glorious years when everything clicked. But it certainly did not involve my wife cleaning. She was just as slovenly then as she is now. I did all the cleaning. But I didn't care. I had all those other things and life was beautiful.

Because men couldn't POSSIBLY want the other benefits of marriage, like companionship, emotional support, insurance, ect ect ect - you know all of those reasons we have been fighting for the legalization of gay marriage for the past decade.

It got me thinking, why would a disproportionate number of men value a strong family structure in their conception of an ideal, balanced life? My suspicion is this: For a lot of men, a traditional family includes a "wife," which is a kind of sexy butler that you also love.

My idea of "having it all" might involve a partner (not necessarily a wife), but certainly not for domestic purposes. The whole aversion to housework men are supposed to have - I just don't feel it.

True equality comes when we have the right to be just as mediocre as men can be.

All we want is the same choices that men have. And if one of those choices is to be able to work a job we hate just as much as men work jobs they hate...hey, that's still better than the alternative - which is to NOT be able to work a job we hate to get money we need!
