I would say that you are looking at this the wrong way. If you own a car you should be able to afford to keep it in safe condition. If that means doing the hard work yourself or paying a shop to do it, it doesn’t matter. It is all part of owning a car.

More details about the incident, the driver was an 18 year old rich kid who was given the car as a birthday present the day before. He was with his girlfriend, fortunately both are alive.

I cannot figure out what they thought they would accomplish by pulling sideways on the roof. That’s a good way to roll it onto it’s side. Any extraction would be pulling forwards or backwards, even diagonally. Pulling from the top center would only tip it onto it’s side no matter what was stuck.

Never own a European car without a warranty.

Odd, In my experience the R50 and R53 are generally pretty good while the early R56s are complete disasters.

I have an R53 (2002-2006) MINI and I LOVE IT. I haven’t had any issues with it since I bought it used in ‘12. I’ve had to replace a few things that shouldn’t have gone as soon as they did but it’s still a solid car, and a lot of fun.

The first generation of New Mini shared motors with Chrysler and Hyundai. They were just generally shitty, as you would expect from anything Chrysler would shove under the hood of a non-SRT Neon.

Yes. Wife’s friend went from BMW to MB to Prius to a near new Mini that she always wanted. All were purchased used and the first three were much more trouble free than that Mini is. My OBD scanner is actually asking for a raise.

I have a 2010 mini and everytime I drive it i wonder what will go wrong with it this time. Just spend 3k on a major fix and it didn’t even make it out of the shop before it broke down again. At least it was covered under the warranty that came with the 3k fix. We are going to ride it out for a few months and then go

We have a 100,000+ mile 2005 Mini Cooper S and it has been a great car. I traded a 2005 Mustang GT for it even up. It’s had a re-call on the power steering, and we have had some small things fixed but it has been very trouble free.

My 2006 Mini is so great and trouble free, when I bought my Chevy Volt I decided to hold onto the Mini to drive in snow and wrench on. You don’t really need a lift to work on it and all the parts are available very affordably on the aftermarket.

They can’t be THAT bad can they? $1200 a month in repairs?? That has to be overstated. There are high school kids in my neighbourhood with used minis

It’s hard being a German car enthusiast, because while I’m rebuilding BMW V8's to maintain some level of horsepower, I see bros building American small blocks to have 500hp with Autozone bolt-on bits. Meanwhile if I want any sizable increase in horsepower I need headers ($$$$) or a supercharger ($$$$$). Oh and never

That’s an easy one, dealing with other car enthusiasts. Here is my 59' Chevy Biscayne I am proud of it. Oh, not an impala well then it’s not a great car. Why a chevy? You should do a swap. Throw a turbo on it. This thing looks awful. List goes on.

The constant my car is better than your car douche who is everywhere you go. I swear these people haunt my dreams.
