Late hit but thank you Disqus! Well, he presents, dramatically, cinematically (and successfully, I thought), an advance in human consciousness, specifically our relation to time. Hope that's not a spoiler. It's a little like 2001 except the viewer actually goes along for the ride, rather than just watching it.

How sad for this guy. He transcends the limitations of sci-fi by successfully representing evolutionary change in cinematic form and for his efforts he gets,,, more sci-fi product for the masses. I hear kids like it.

Some of his behavior (and demeanor) during the debates would support this thesis.

There are issues, cosmic chemistry, that make an older woman/younger man pairing seem implausible (regardless of the recent Emmanuel/Brigitte Macron example). Older women may be predatory but an older (post-menopausal) women is not what a man (of any age) is actually seeking.
