The Blackfyre rebellion was several generations prior to the current events, why would they introduce it at all? It has no relevance to what’s happening in the here and now, outside of (maybe) Faegon in the books, and he isn’t even a character on the show.

Is it possible Howland told Meera (or Jojen, and he told Meera at some point) about Jon’s parentage? That way they could play this angle without introducing Howland as an actual character on the show, since B&W have traditionally condensed down narrative to fewer characters when it makes sense.
