Yes the mobs get harder but you should be getting exponentially stronger so it does get easier with each level imo.

The only real way to play the game like a Pro, abusing the card game and the junction system w rare cards.

Wow FF9 had one of the best things going in terms of world/character design, for as odd as it was to the conventional Final Fantasy. Sure it wasnt FF6 or 7 or for what it was and the time period it was amazing. And the gameplay/combat alone made it great.
