I am 100% with you in this sentiment. Metroidvania games, especially, are an absolute joy to fully complete for me, especially if they are wonderfully designed and it’s easy to connect to the world, lore, and characters.

Why is that a bad thing? Castlevania had done it that way numerous times. Like Hollow Knight, key items are meant to be purchased, while story-progression items are only earned through boss fights or unlocking important areas.

Not true. Special editions are just that; special. Nintendo produced special edition Switch packages for the release of Splatoon 2, and they did the same thing for Super Mario Odyssey.
