He wasn’t as lionized as he is today, but in 1993 Tom Hanks was a hugely likable and bankable leading man. Think of Big, Splash, A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle...while the pivot to straight drama was a departure at the time, he was way established in the culture as a charismatic and relatable performer.

I get where he’s coming from today, but think he’s overshooting a bit in saying that a straight actor should no longer be permitted to play a gay character.

Y. Ourwelcome.

I mean, you’re very close to getting the idea when you point out it’d be a faux pas to cast a white actor as a black slave. In stage and screen in the early 20th century, it was totally accepted to just paint your face and perform as a different race, and even performers of color were encouraged to paint their faces

I think the thing is, in the 90s, they probably didn’t even consider casting a gay actor, nor were there many openly gay actors in Hollywood. Thirty years later, in a (moderately) more accepting society, there are gay performers who can play that role, studios more willing to hire them for it, and a public less likely

Nobody’s denying that; the article is about as caustic/controversial as saying “we used to insulate with asbestos, which worked at the time; but we don’t anymore, which is good.” Truly this headline/quote was mined so people would fly to the comments.

My favorite part about arguing with people who claim nobody but white progressives/wokes/academics use the word Latinx, is that they keep using the word Latinx in their arguments that nobody uses the word Latinx, and then web crawlers searching for new words to add to the dictionaries go “Wow, people sure are using

Sure, arbiter of Hispanic language use.

and even the Disney one is actually so terrifying and that’s the tidied up version?!? This gonna be a freak film.

I say at least read Volume 2, cause that one was fun. The stuff after that is (in my opinion), pretty hit and miss.

To be fair, the book that Power of the Dog is based on came first.

Have you seen Robert Pattinson in any non-Twilight movies?

This is the most strange argument I have ever read. 55 is sorta old. Im 45 and I feel old. Old is not a pejurative - it is a relative term. WE say old-millenial - is that wrong?

i guess 55 isnt that old if youre a celebrity, have a trainer, in home gym, nutritionist, plastic surgeon, etc. But if youre a broken down regular person whos been working regular jobs since you were a teenager, 55 feels fuckin old.

that scene was so hard to watch... i never looked up coat hanger abortions. i just assumed one of the shoulders was used but they used a very sharp torn rod piece from a hanger which was way worse than what i had assumed. i was internally screaming.

While there were plenty of laughs to be had throughout, the funniest thing I found about this episode was how shit the Stargo App was and how art was imitating life.

In Australia, if you want to stream Succession legally you have to subscribe to ‘Binge’ - which is owned and operated by Rupert Murdoch’s Foxtel and by

Absolutely. I can actually speak to this myself - Seeing an article where an actor from a show I liked came out and described their feelings was what made me realise that I was asexual.

“How is this newsworthy? So somebody’s gay, big whoop”

No idea if this is completely, partially or not at all correct, but seems like he was a really nice guy and seems that he was very well liked by his costars.

Well it hadn’t occurred to me before, but now I’m wondering if I’m starring in a Cloverfield movie without realizing it.
