Oh honey, are you seriously going to argue that national socialism is a brand of socialism? Because I thought we were having a sensible and rational conversation here.

To be fair, Communism and Socialism still survive because they’re not ideologies dedicated to the extermination of peoples dependent on their race or sexual orientation. I and my family have been fortunate to have benefited from the NHS in Britain which is an example of a socialist idea in action, and I will defend…
Honestly, I hope you’re right. Because the idea that Nazism as an ideology is still alive and kicking in the 21st Century is baffling and genuinely disconcerting to me.
Saying, “You could have replaced this character with an entirely different character with these character traits” isn’t criticism, it’s fanfiction. Sure, you could have replaced Rose with another character and done something different. Just like you could have replaced Luke in the original trilogy with another…
I went to see The Master at a midnight screening, the night it opened on a huge screen. I had a joint before riding my bike into town, and had booked a seat right in the centre of the theatre. Unsurprisingly the theatre was almost completely empty and through the fog of cannabis I tried to find my seat. As I sat down…
The introduction of a love story between Finn and Rose was a little cheesy, but the line itself was actually well written.
Well, for starters Finn would have just abandoned ship with nobody to stop him so that’s a pretty big plot point.
I was deliberately being facetious but thanks for taking it totally seriously and taking the time to respond.
They literally fight over a lightsabre. Not sure how that’s a loose definition of a lightsabre fight.
No, but two characters literally fight over a lightsabre.
A Ryan Coogler Star Wars film? Sign me the fuck up.
No listing for Ken Burns’s “Vietnam”? A documentary that has been in the making for over a decade and finally gives a voice to the Vietnamese combatants who have otherwise been sidelined from the story?
Blue Planet 2 should have made the list.
Weird moment when I realized that I found myself having more sympathy for paedophiles and serial killers than Nazis.
You know, if the ghost of eazy e were making similar points that you were making only applying them to a film like A Serious Man, then maybe, just maybe, your question about him being Jewish might actually have a point.
“I’m not high but my dog is and so am I!”
We’re Only In It For The Money still remains my favourite Zappa record, probably because it feels like a punk record way ahead of its time. Yes, it’s sarcastic and deliberately obnoxious in places, but that only seems to make me love it more. Yeah, there’s an element of it being the musical equivalent of a South Park…
Well, that’s quite a step down from “a whole race”.
Agreed, but again this isn’t the issue. You can’t really call it insidious when someone has flat out accused someone you know of rape. That’s basically forcing you to acknowledge your personal stakes.
That’s not really the issue though. We all accept that we probably know shitty people who have done shitty things. The issue is whether when confronted with evidence of shitty behaviour do you confront it or just let it slide?
