Character studies are not ‘expendable’.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is probably the best space opera ever made.

There’s lots of contenders for that. But I feel it’s certainly in the top tier.

And basically all of the episodes stand on their own merits as satisfying stories. It doesn’t fall into the pitfall of modern tv.

Sympathy for the Devil and Pierrot Le Fou are probably my two favorites. Wonder how those will translate to live action.

I mean, I think The Late Phillip J. Fry definitely deserves an A. Along with Meanwhile and Near Death Wish. But yeah, S1's grades are probably too low.

The first three seasons (and even season 4) are pretty good. The show just got ridiculously lazy at a certain point, and became bottom of the barrel garbage.
