If you’re 30 or 40 hours into Dragon Quest XI, you’re nowhere near the halfway point.

Kinda love that this dude’s response to proof of your playthrough—after him calling it BS—is to criticize how you got through it in that time, rather than owning the own he just got handed.
For what it’s worth, I’m of a mind with you on Octopath. I really wanted to love it; the soundtrack reminded me of Square’s glory…
So you called BS, got the receipts, and your response is to criticize his playthrough rather than eating the crow you clearly laid out for yourself?
I mean, damn.
Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute
OK, here are the receipts.
Yup, no need to have played any of the others. Keep in mind, though, it’s more of an action-platformer than a traditional RPG. It’s just got weapons/armor/abilities/other fun RPG elements.
The one you fight during the waiting mermaid quest. No idea why it took me so many tries, his tentacles revived way too fast, and it seemed like he had 5 turns in a row.
DQ XI is amazing. Of course you have to activate“strong monsters” aka “real DQ mode” or it’s just another classic jrpg auto-attack fest.
I just started Dragon Quest 11, and while I completely agree with you on the soundtrack (the overworld theme seems to loop every 45 seconds), I'm disheartened by your statement on its ease.
I also loved Dragon Quest XI but if you’ve got a mind to break an RPG it’s very easy to become overpowered and stay overpowered the whole way through without too much effort. Thankfully they’ve got some great options for people who want a challenge to keep it from becoming boring in the draconian quest feature.
I also…
No challenging Boss Fights in DQ XI? That Kraken wiped the floor with me so many times it was infuriating.
There is delicate balance for what drives the company, the creatives or management. If Blizzard has been making poor decisions for years (everyone has seen some of the questionable decisions), then it only makes sense that the budgeting folks would want to get more control. Canceled projects waste time and money. …
Oh, and really good article. Forgot to say that!
Blizzard, under Morhaime, canceled the Diablo 3 expansion, not Activision. It’s important to note that even before Activision executives began entering the company, Blizzard was making plenty of bad or questionable decisions.
So... first they (Activision) cancel the Diablo 3 expansion. Then they say: “Hey you got no games or projects comming out this year, now you have to cut costs!”, they drove Blizzard into that situation.
Giz has ads?!?!
And I’m sooooooo sure this was the only time this has ever happened and not just the first time someone reported it to the press.
BUT YOU CAN ASK IT TO TELL YOU THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR RECIPE WHILE YOU’RE COOKING
Seriously, why do people buy these devices? Don’t these companies have enough of your info?
