I’m off work. Two week vacation starts now.
Saw this E30 vert on friday.
I used my laser thermometer to measure the temp of the exhaust manifold trying to find the dead cylinder. Cyl #4 was half the temp as the others so I unplugged the #4 wire from the distributor and the engine ran exactly the same. Before pulling spark plugs out, I took my spark tester and plugged it into cyl #6 ( to be…
Arrived home Thursday afternoon. Will post more later. 4569kms in 9 days. I slept for 12 hours.
With a long bit of driving to get done today (805km), my brother and I got off to a early start. Leaving Edmonton traffic was light as we had stayed in a hotel on the west side of the city, so we were traveling in the opposite direction of commuter traffic.
I got my first ever speeding ticket. A semi kicked up a rock and chipped my windshield. When I got to Edmonton I managed to rip off 2 mudflaps in the gas station parking lot, and a third on the upper parkade at West Edmonton Mall. I also somehow ripped my pants open on the seat bolster.
I made a Fuelly account to track my fuel
I have the car as ready as it’s going to be. My brother and I will
Found this little unmarked compound in the middle of a commercial park.
I saw this tiny Toyota while I was at Visions electronics
Inspected the passenger side window on the BMW, today. It will power down but wont go back up without assistance. I lubed the regulator to see if that would help but it didn’t. The motor has a place to accept a hex bit to facilitate rolling the window manually, I’ve managed to completely strip that out. I didn’t…
Went to pick up some speakers for the car. This was parked next to me.
As I’m running out of time to get ready for the trip to BC. Paid to have remaining mechanical work done and get an inspection done.
Adjusting the valve clearances took 5 hrs. This is very fiddle work, I didn’t care for it. Broke my feeler gauge. All the valves were tighter than spec, I not sure if that’s just how they were or because I wasn’t checking in 5*C weather. According to the maintenance schedule this is supposed to be done annually, this…
A pic of my muffler delete
I managed to not make a mess.
Spent 5 1/2 hours Friday lubing the slide pins on the BMW’s calipers. I’ve never done any brake work before, this was easy and rather straight forward. while the rotors, pads, and calipers are rusty none of the bolts were seized.
Parking on the street has already descended into chaos. And I've left the sunroof tipped open in the rain, it's raining hard.
Went to get my BMW out for the summer. The car cover blew off the car again over the winter. Check to make sure all the fluids are still in the car, throw in a hot battery, and this will fire up every time.
