Hello. I don’ think wiping the machine is necessary. Try go the easiest route first, updating the drivers (I posted a link above for Intel’s driver update utility), assigning the fixed IP address for the laptop’s MAC in router settings and/or setting up the transmit power of your WLAN adapter first. More details here

I believe it’s an Intel driver issue and even a well know one. Who knows how old the drivers provided by your laptop manufacturer are.
