WOW. I run 2200rpms at 80 mph from a 4-spd auto.

When it drops 3rd to pass, it’s around 4500rpms, still 1300rpms shy of redline.
Problem is: You give people the tech, they will use it, regardless of who’s responsibility it’s supposed to be.
My 4 speed auto revs at 2200 rpms at 80mph.
What are you running for revs cruising at 80mph?
Yes.
Except they gear most transmissions so the final drive is the same as it would be with a 3-4 speed, which does next to nothing for highway economy.
The point is their vehicles aren’t touted as “self-driving”.
That’s exactly the point:
Likewise, an attentive human driver may have seen her and been proceeding with caution before she “jumped out”, so they could have avoided her.
See:
The world where a proper driver is aware of and reacts to their surroundings before things “suddenly” appear in front of them?
The point is: People don’t pay attention while driving non-self driving cars, expecting them to pay attention in self driving cars is just stupidity.

It’s a “self-driving” car, why would you expect the human behind the wheel to be paying any attention to the road?
You’re assuming the human behind the wheel was paying any attention. The car is “self-driving”, why would they be paying any attention to the road?
“it’s very clear it would have been difficult to avoid this collision in any kind of mode [autonomous or human-driven] based on how she came from the shadows right into the roadway,”
Because the Police cannot possibly know that and this car killed a person.
Agreed.
If it were a kid would you blame the parent?
